What’s inside

This report provides information about basic religious charities registered in 2014 with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, including where they reside and operate, their age, size, workforce, charitable purpose, main activities, additional activities and beneficiaries.

The advent of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) in 2012 and an Annual Information Statement (AIS) return by those who registered with them in 2013 has allowed a greater understanding of charities and their activities. In September 2014 the ACNC in conjunction with the Curtin University Not-for-profit Initiative released a high-level report on the first AIS. The AIS data was also made available digitally through the Australian Government Data Repository. This factsheet builds on that report by focusing on 10,918 basic religious charities.
