What’s inside

This report provides information about Queensland based charities that have a main activity related to community services i.e. either aged care activities; civic and advocacy activities; economic, social and community development; emergency and relief; employment and training; housing activities; income support and maintenance; law and legal activities; mental health and crisis intervention; or social services. Data includes where charities reside and operate, their age, size, workforce, charitable purpose, main activities, additional activities and beneficiaries.

The advent of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) in 2012 and submission of Annual Information Statements (AIS) in 2013 by those charities which registered with them, have allowed new measures to be taken of charities and their activities. In September 2014 the ACNC in conjunction with Curtin University Not-for-profit Initiative released a report on the first AIS and combined it with some ATO data from the Australian Business Register, Business Activity Statements and PAYG summaries. The AIS data were also made available digitally through the Australian Government Data Repository.

This report examines the filed AIS data for Queensland charities that have a main activity of either aged care activities; civic and advocacy activities; economic, social and community development; emergency and relief; employment and training; housing activities; income support and maintenance; law and legal activities; mental health and crisis intervention; or social services.
