How to be an effective advocate

As we transition to being more inclusive in our communities, your child may still come across prejudice and discrimination. An advocate is someone who stands for something. In this case, your child’s right to an inclusive education. As a parent, you know your child best – but it’s also important to know your rights and be willing to build partnerships with your school and other groups.

Being an effective advocate is a helpful guide that explores how you can work to keep moving things forward for children with disability.  It includes advice on how to:

  • Build partnerships with the school
  • Advocate for inclusive education
  • Plan for effective advocacy in school meetings
  • Stay organised and vigilant over the long haul.
