Jo Cavanagh OAM has achieved an outstanding career and reputation for visionary leadership across the social services sector. In 2013 she was appointed Member of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her social justice and community service, and in 2014 was awarded the Women of Influence Award for Social Enterprise/Not-For-Profits 

Jo is Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University Faculty of Health, Arts and Design and in early 2020 stepped down as CEO for Family Life after 25 years to provide strategic advice, leadership coaching and social impact consulting services.   

Her additional current volunteer leadership and Board roles include:   

  • Chairperson Good Things Foundation Australia  
  • Chair Advisory Council Centre for Social Impact Swinburne 

She has a Masters in Management and Leadership, Bachelor of Social Work and undertook a Churchill Fellowship in 1990 to bring evidence to advocacy to expose the abuse of children in out of home care and work towards prevention and early intervention services to reduce the need for child protection. 

Jo has unrivalled ability to enrol diverse stakeholders in ambitious goals for social change and to drive entrepreneurial growth at the local, national and international levels. She has presented at various national and international conferences for progressing the rights of children and disadvantaged communities. 

 Jo brings great value in driving collaboration and digital innovation agendas within the Community Services Reform Council to address social and economic challenges in ensuring our communities and world are better places for our future generations.
