
NDIS Workforce Research Project
Dedicated research towards the growth and impact of the NDIS and its workforce across Queensland.
This three-year research project seeks to understand the impacts and workforce patterns experienced in the emerging NDIS landscape.
Jobs Queensland, in partnership with WorkAbility Qld, has commissioned research to investigate employer, employee and sole provider experiences across the state.

State wide NDIS workforce research reports
Read insights to the NDIS workforce in the first and second statewide reports.
These reports present data sets, trends, projections and information for the disability and community services sector on the growth of the NDIS and its workforce in addition to the upskilling, training and employment opportunities presented in a series of Industry recommendations and actions forward.
Read the reports for:
- Analysis of data sources(Yellow Card, CSIRO Data61, NVCER, NDIS, ABS Census and Labour Force, Jobs Queensland Anticipating Future Skills)
- Qualitative insights (providers, employers, employees, sole traders and self-managed participants interviews)
- Industry actions forward from the findings.
These reports inform Jobs Queensland’s advice to government and will be used to inform future actions forward to meet NDIS jobs growth and skills need.
The 2022 and third (final) report will be released in late 2022.
Regional research reports
A set of six regional reports were produced as part of the first year of research across six NDIS roll-out sites; Townsville, Mackay, Ipswich, Toowoomba, Brisbane North and Brisbane South. These reports present key findings for each region and contribute to the 2020 state wide report; Strengthening Queensland’s NDIS Workforce 2020 report.
Action Learning through the NDIS Workforce Research Project
During phase two of the research project WorkAbility Qld partnered with the University of Sunshine Coast (USC) to deliver on further actions/projects.
These projects were intended to sharpen areas of research and
These have included:
- Development of a Workforce Planning Connect Toolkit for the Disability Sector
- Development of an Allied Health Assistants Good Practice Guide
- Creating the WorkAbility website as an online searchable resource hub for NDIS workforce, funding and training supports
- A Group Training Organisation research project

Funding and Training Support
The funding and support mapping resource is available for employers and workers to navigate the training programs and employment incentives for NDIS related occupations. The resource includes the following information in key areas:
- Traineeships
- The Certificate 3 Guarantee
- Higher Level Skills Program
- Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) initiative
This resource was produced in partnership with Jobs Queensland as part of the NDIS Workforce Research Project and aims to provide a user-friendly manual to better understand the range of funding and supports available for workforce development.
