Workforce for the future
Our workforce is our biggest and most important asset. CSIA works collaboratively to ensure Industry is able to have a flexible, robust and well-trained workforce.
The Community Services Industry is projected to have significant growth, making it a key driver in Australia’s economy.
It has also experienced significant industry reforms over many years, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), My Aged Care, and many others.
These are all changing the way that community services organisations do business. It’s also changing the skills and roles we need into the future.
Improving how Industry attracts, retains, develops and plans for our workforce is essential for the future of our Industry.
CSIA is a platform for driving collective change around a range of issues impacting on the future of our workforce.
We engage across Industry through our deep connections and wide networks.
We bring together our colleagues from the big cities, through to regional, rural and remote areas.
It’s from this strong foundation that we are able to take a system-level approach to the workforce agenda, through collaboration with Industry and Government.
Our work in this area is to make sure:
- The workforce needs of our Industry are reflected in policy and funding programs
- There is a strong evidence base about the current and future workforce needs of our Industry
- That organisational, regional and other workforce planning programs best meet the needs of our Industry
- There is quality across the education and training system to ensure our workforce has the right skills for the future
Together we can shape a workforce for the future that advances the Community Services Industry.
Our impact
We manage and deliver a range of projects to shape the future of the Community Services Industry workforce. Through these we deliver deep insights, resources, tools and interventions to build a strong and sustainable workforce.
Industry Skills Advisor Program
CSIA is providing strategic Industry-led advice to the Queensland Government around the implementation of the vocational education and training system for our Industry. This project is funded by the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training. We provide Industry intelligence on key workforce and training issues to government and lead Industry responses that drive positive change for the community services workforce.
Workforce Innovation Network
CSIA leads the Community Services Workforce Innovation Network. Through this group we explore the challenges, and identify the opportunities, for human resources and workforce development in our Industry. This important network helps identify current and future workforce needs, as well as access to experts, researchers and colleagues to share the latest trends, successes and information.
A workforce for the future through partnerships
CSIA is a platform for collaboration to drive change, which is why we work through consortia and partnerships with peak bodies and organisations on key projects. Workforce is one of the areas we believe in the power of partnering to create real solutions to the big issues.
Boosting the Local Care Workforce
CSIA is a partner in the national Boosting the Local Care Workforce program along with Ernst & Young. This national project – with investment from the Department of Social Services – supports workforce growth and industry development in the disability and aged care sectors, with a particular focus on those in rural, regional and outer-metropolitan locations.
WorkAbility Qld
WorkAbility Qld is delivered in a consortium between CSIA, National Disability Services Queensland (NDS) and Queensland Council for Social Service (QCOSS) to grow and develop the NDIS workforce in Queensland. CSIA provides governance and project management for the consortium, as well as leading state-wide initiatives. Together we deliver:
NDIS Workforce research
CSIA was commissioned by Jobs Queensland, on behalf of WorkAbility Qld, to investigate the NDIS workforce experience of employers, employees and sole providers across the state. This extensive project engages with different regions around quantitative and qualitative data collection to build a picture of the NDIS workforce and its challenges. Reports from this project inform Governments, Industry and other stakeholders on the best ways to meet the jobs growth and skills needs.
NDIS Training and Skills Support Strategy (NTSSS)
CSIA, in partnership with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, and on behalf of WorkAbility Qld, manages the NTSSS project. This is an Industry-led, multifaceted approach to training and developing a quality workforce capable of delivering services reflective of the needs of NDIS participants across the state.
Workforce Development and Training Mapping
The Human Services Skills Organisation (HSSO) has engaged CSIA to bring together existing workforce development and training programs, as well as new projects. This Workforce Development and Training Mapping project aims to create a useful resource for Industry with a collaboration platform for stakeholders to access and maintain over time.
