We can only guess that you’re sick of hearing about the NDIS rollout but you may also be worried about the implications it has for your business.
You know you can’t just ignore it.
It won’t go away.
This huge change is inevitable and to put your head in the sand about it will lead to imminent dark days for your organisation.
However, actively driving the change in your organisation and preparing for what the NDIS rollout means for you will open the door to immense opportunity.
Being in a position to take advantage of that opportunity hinges on innovation, flexibility and agility in your organisation’s approach to service delivery.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an insurance that all people who are born with, living with, or who acquire a disability will have all the necessary and reasonable support they need to live an ordinary life.
It is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and gives those people living with disability – and their families – greater choice and control over where and how they get the support they need.
Where in the past, the various tiers of government provided funding to NGOs to deliver particular support to people with a disability, now the funding goes directly to the person with a disability to choose their service provider based on their particular preferences and needs.
The overarching approach centres on early intervention and individualised support to give people greater outcomes for their future, and facilitate them participating fully in the community and employment.

For organisations delivering disability services, the rollout of the NDIS will impact every aspect of your business: finance, workforce, service model, business model, marketing, etc.
By now you’ve no doubt already been on the NDIS website and followed all the instructions they offer about working with them, including the registration process for providers.
If for some reason, you haven’t yet done this, here’s the link you need to get going:
Beyond that, you need to make sure you have an up-to-date business plan which outlines your business goals in this new and unchartered environment, as well as how to achieve those goals.
Once you’ve done that, you’re going to be much clearer on exactly how this all impacts you directly and what additional support you need.
It might result in you needing to form partnerships or invest in technologies. Whatever the case, there is help available and we’ll cover this in the next section.
In rising to the challenges the NDIS rollout poses to the Disability Services sector, the workforce will need to have the at its core: the right attitudes and values, a broad demographic to match participants, and ongoing opportunities to upskill in areas relevant to service supports.

Community Door holds the historical resources, tools and information developed by the Government funded but industry driven Sector Readiness Project, which concluded on 30 June 2014.
But that doesn’t mean that these resources, tools and information aren’t still incredibly helpful.
During the course of the project, the organisations behind it created The Business Development Package which featured the Organisational Development Toolkit.
The package and toolkit were developed specifically to build resilience in organisations facing the challenges of the NDIS rollout.
Designed as a self-paced, self-assessment process, organisations can work through the toolkit modules and resources to determine where they’re at now, where they want to be and start planning to get there.

While the Queensland Government website also links through to the Sector Readiness Project on Community Door, and through to the NDS website, they do have other tools and resources they’ve developed in consultation with the Nous Group.
The Queensland Government commissioned the Nous Group to develop a package of six provider support resources which address different parts of engaging and responding to consumer demand.
The tools and resources fit together in a package to support providers in the end-to-end process of responding to consumer demand in the NDIS. The individual parts of the package can also be used in isolation to support a particular area of need for your organisation.
