Queensland State Budget 2018-2019 What’s in it for the Community Services Industry?
The Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, the Honourable Jackie Trad MP, delivered the Palaszczuk Government’s fourth budget on 12 June 2018.
The purpose of this summation is to identify business and program opportunities for the community services industry with an outline of connected announcements which will require a watching brief for industry. We draw on themes within the budget that relate to the business of the community service delivery and identify opportunities for the industry to engage.
The government has provided an overview of the Budget titled Delivering for Queensland on its Budget website. Here you will find summary documents as well as the full budget papers. Budget Paper 4 lists Budget measures by portfolios.
Significantly, released just prior to the Budget the Government’s Our Future State: Advancing Queensland’s priorities launches the Government’s renewed economic narrative outlining their investment approach towards greater community recognition of social and economic inclusion for all Queenslanders. The approach while not detailed against every budget measure, provides first steps on the journey towards the Government’s expression of high level outcomes for both economic and social investment across Queensland.
Overall the Budget announcements detail the Government’s commitment to Job creation mainly through large scale infrastructure projects and investment in regional job incentives. Beyond the $500M committed for the National Redress Scheme, previously announced by the Premier, there are no large scale new announcements specifically for the community services indus
